T-shirt Tutorial

This is an example of what the t-shirt transfer paper looks like. We bought ours at Walmart (Avery was the brand and we found it next to the office paper - $13 for 12 sheets). Any office supply or craft store will also carry them.

Open your attachment and print out the image on a regular sheet of paper to test everything out before you use the transfer paper. The design should print out backwards. Mike is #7 so this is what his sheet looks like. If everything looks good then print it again, this time onto a t-shirt transfer paper. (Follow the directions from the package you purchased.)

Trim around the design as closely as you can, leaving only a little white space. We didn't do that on our example and if you look closely at the shirt you can see a "glossy film" around our design after it was ironed on. Note: follow the instructions provided in your t-shirt paper package.

We placed our t-shirt over a folded table cloth (instructions said not to use an ironing board). Now turn your sheet with the design over so the number is directly touching your t-shirt. Place the image so that it is where you want it and make sure it is centered. Your name and number will go on the BACK of your t-shirt. Remember to always keep little fingers away from the hot iron. ;-)

Apply your heated iron over the image being transferred onto you shirt. Our instructions told us to apply firm pressure while ironing for about 1 minute. Mike ironed for about 3 minutes and the edges of our design turned yellow. Again note: follow the instructions provided in your t-shirt paper package.

Let the image cool for a few seconds then slowly pull the paper off your shirt.

Now you're done with the BACK of your family reunion t-shirt!

Everyone will have the same little image on the front of their shirts. You can print out three of the images onto one sheet of transfer paper (to save on paper). It should look like this (again with the images reversed).

Repeat the same steps as shown above. Cut around your image pretty close to the edges so not a lot of white paper is showing.

Make sure to place your image face down so the black design is touching your shirt and not your iron.

Slowly peel off the white paper.

And you're done!

Each shirt will have an image on the front (as seen below).

Along with our last name and your special number on the back. (This was our test shirt. Little Sayd is wearing Mike's number.)

Can't wait to see everyone's shirts. If you have questions call Mike on his cell phone. See you all at the reunion!
